Jay Clark suggests the fitness of both Tom McDonald and Ben Brown could lead the Demons to throw up a September debut for one of their young key forwards.

McDonald - who is on the recovery from a serious foot injury - and Brown are both under question due to injury and form, according to Clark.

But, after speaking to Melbourne, he told Triple M's Rush Hour it could lead to a rare finals debut for 19-year-old key forward Jacob van Rooyen.

"Tom McDonald is coming back like a steam train from that foot injury...(but) they think he needs one more week," he explained.

"Melbourne fans know who this man is.

"Speaking to Melbourne today, they think (Jacob) van Rooyen is absolutely in the mix for a September debut."
