In less than a fortnight the CLOSED sign will hang on the Jensen Dump in line with long term Council plans.
The controversial move means that locals will now have to make the trek to the Stuart, Hervey Range, or Bluewater facilities for future dumping.
Locals have been quick to voice their opinions on Facebook about the closure.
"So... 16 bucks to dump a load of rubbish, and now having to travel 20+ minutes. .. when most of Brisbane dumping is free and numerous available. .. yep plenty of people will be dumping more in the bush..."
"There's tons of rubbish in the bushland around Deeragun. Rusted cars, barrels, derelict shit everywhere. Considering that's before the dump closed, I don't know if this will make any difference. The ones who trash the land never used the dump to start with, in my opinion."
"Why not just have a green waste dump?"
"People are just going to leave stuff at gate or out the front."
"No secret really. Council told community that it was going to close this dump down over 12 months ago due to dump being full."
