Former Australian ambassador to the US Joe Hockey explained on the Hot Breakfast this morning what it was really like to play golf with Donald Trump.

LISTEN HERE:

“It was… very stressful, very stressful,” Hockey said.

“When you play with the US president, there’s usually about 25 carts with Secret Service and snipers, there’s helicopters overhead, and Donald Trump is very competitive on the golf course, that’s no surprise.

“He does the odd sledge at the wrong time, just on your backswing, so that was a bit stressful.

“And then he drives on his own greens… he parked his buggy on the green between the pin and the end of the green.

“And I yelled out to him I said ‘oi, can you move, I gotta play my shot,’ cause I was 150 yards away.

“And he said ‘come on, ok, play it, play it, hit me! Hit me!’ he said… I said ‘ok, if you’d like me to do it, you’re the president, right.’

“And as I was about to take the swing, this voice behind me, Secret Service guy, he pulls out a five iron from my bag and he said ‘do not hit the President of the United States, sir’.

“‘Hit it high, hit it wide. If you hit the President of the United States it will go very badly for you sir.’”
