Triple M's Joey Montagna believes Port Adelaide may have "missed their window" in terms of premiership contention.

JOEY EXPLAINS:

Port Adelaide slumped to a 22-point loss at home to Essendon on Friday night, making it one win from seven games and ensuring they would miss finals.

Without a finals win in four years, Joey told Triple M Melbourne's Dead Set Legends he was concerned about them going forward.

"I'm really worried about Port Adelaide going forward," he said.

"What's become a theme now is they're consistently inconsistent.

"It's four years now, they've only played finals once, and they didn't win that final. So they haven't won a final in four years."

Joey ran through Port Adelaide's most important players, such as Robbie Gray, Travis Boak, Justin Westhoff and Paddy Ryder, pointing out they were all hitting the back end of their careers.

"My view is I think they've missed their sweet spot," he said.

"Their best is behind them. I think they've missed their window."
