Triple M royalty Lee Simon has paid tribute to Mental As Anything co-founder Andrew 'Greedy' Smith, remembering him as "just the sweetest guy".

Greedy died from a heart attack aged 63, with the band releasing a statement on Tuesday morning confirming the devastating news.

Simon said it was terrible news for both the music industry and music fans across so many decades.

"I was stunned and very saddened to hear the news," he told Kennedy Molloy.

"Greedy was doing interviews just recently and just being the Greedy that we all love and know so well."
