The funeral for the late John Keith Avery, AO, APM, retired Commissioner of Police, will be held at Palmdale's Hillside Chapel at 2 this afternoon.

Mr Avery passed away last Saturday, aged 90, having battled illness.

He led the Force from 1984 to 1991, and set about changing the structure of the NSW Police Force to reconnect the Police with the community, and for tackling corruption.

The procession will feature V.I.P. motorcycles, Mounted Police, a bearer party, a uniformed marching contingent, a bearer party and marching band.

There will also be a lone piper, a police guard lining the procession route and an Executive ‘Guard of Honour.’

Mr Avery is survived by his three children, Sue, Carol, Rick and their families.
