Time will now be divided into two very distinct eras: Before We Knew Bees Could Feed On Our Tears (BWKBCFOOT) and After We Knew Bees Could Feed On Our Tears (AWKBCFOOT).

Unfortunately, a 28-year-old woman is the reason we now understand how horrendous insect-life can be after doctors pulled four very real, very alive bees from her eye.

Ms He had rocked up to a Taiwanese hospital complaining of a swollen eye, under the naive impression that she had an eye infection.

But when Dr Hung-Chi, the hospital's head of ophthalmology, took a look under a microscope, he spotted something out of the ordinary.

"I saw something that looked like insect legs, so I pulled them out under a microscope slowly, and one at a time without damaging their bodies."

Ta-dah! Four "sweat bees", so called because they feed on salty human sweat as a source of protein.

It's believed that the bees made their way into Ms He's tear ducts when she was pulling up weeds from a relative's grave; sweat bees grow to about 4mm in length, and are often found in mountainous areas and - you've guessed it - graves.
