Brisbane Lions hard nut Mitch Robinson says he would “100 percent” finish his career in Tasmania if the AFL finally granted the Apple Isle its own team.

The debate over whether a standalone Tassie team should be included in the AFL or not has intensified in recent years, especially after non-traditional markets such as Gold Coast and western Sydney were handed AFL teams.

Robinson, a Tasmania native, said he loves playing at the Lions but he would ditch them in a heartbeat if he had the chance to play senior footy in his home state.

“At the moment it’s going alright down there with the two teams (Hawthorn and North Melbourne) playing down there,” Robinson told Triple M's Rush Hour on Friday.

“There is a north versus south rivalry so as I played VFL when I was younger there, there was obviously that going on.

“If we can kind of wash that away and we can get our own team down there that would be the best for us instead of trying to get a team who is already established in the AFL.

“I would love to finish my career with a Tassie team but I don’t see that happening.

“But if Brisbane are listening, I’d love to extend my contract up there.”

The former Carlton midfielder’s contract with the Lions expires at the end of the 2018 season.
