Three-time championship winner Craig Lowndes has agreed with calls led by Holden Red Bull Racing boss Roland Dane suggesting that Scott McLaughlin’s second straight Supercars championship victory will be “tainted forever” after claiming victory in the Penrite Oil Sandown 500 yesterday.

McLaughlin, forced to start from the back of the grid yesterday, secured the title after finishing ninth in yesterday’s enduro race.

However, Lowndes, who took out Saturday’s race and completed a weekend to remember with teammate Jamie Whincup expressed his views on The Big Breakfast this morning “I don’t think anyone intentionally goes out to break the rules”.

The Supercars season has been shrouded in controversy since last month’s controversial Bathurst 1000 which saw McLaughlin’s DJR Team Penske fined $30,000 for an engine breach during qualification and docked 300 championship points on top of a $150,000 fine for Fabian Coulthard drive through penalty

When pressed on legitimacy of McLaughlin’s tile the seven-time Bathurst winner had the following to say “Not only the win, you’d almost say the year because you just don’t know how long it’s been going on either so there’s all those questions marks”.

The Supercars Championship will head to Newcastle in a fortnight for the final race of the season.
