Triple M's Nathan Brown has recalled what it was like playing against Melbourne in 2009, saying there were some "strange things going on".

Melbourne famously went down to Richmond in a thriller at the MCG late in the 2009 season, in which Jordan McMahon kicked a goal after the siren.

It handed Richmond a victory that, at the time, pushed them to five and a half wins for the season, leaving Melbourne on three and within then-priority pick threshold.

With reports and transcripts coming out of the investigation into whether Melbourne tanked - including that game against Richmond - Nathan Brown recalled what playing in that game was like.

“Jordan McMahon, you might remember kicked a goal after the siren,” he said.

"Paul Johnson, remember the ruckman, the big ruckman? He started on me at full back. I was starting (at) full forward.

"I guess that's why the big questions were asked."
