We’ve watched for years as supermarket giants have fought a price war over the cost of milk, getting down to the $1 per litre we see today.

The real cost though comes at the expense of our farmers who simply can’t continue to operate under the current pricing models.

Senator Susan McDonald is in Canberra lobbying parliament to introduce a floor price that would see prices raised by 20 cents per litre. However she warned that may not come though soon enough to save the livelihoods of Australia’s dairy producers.

“It would take a minimum of 18 months to consult around the country’  she told The Big Breakfast with Marto, Margaux & Nick Cody this morning.

However, there are ways that you, the consumer, can help our farmers.

It's a very small sacrifice to make to help save some of nation's finest primary producers but it will be 100% worth it in the long run. After all, we just want milk that tastes like real milk, right?
