We get it – social media is difficult to stay on top of. Just when you think you’ve got a handle on one platform, a new one pops up. Unfortunately, the early adopters of these platforms tend to be our kids and it can be scary prospect as parent when they understand the intricacies of the app but not the risks associated with it.  

TikTok, a short-form mobile video app, is the newest, must-have for today’s youth and it despite being highly entertaining and fun for most ages (it’s recommended for those 13+)  it’s not without the dangers posed by any other social media platform.

 

However, EFTM tech expert Trevor Long told The Big Breakfast with Marto, Robin and Nick Cody this morning that there’s a more effective method to monitoring what your child sees online rather than a knee-jerk blanket ban on all apps.

So don’t panic if you haven’t quite got your head around TikTok yet because let’s face it, there’ll be a new incarnation soon enough – Just be vigilant and if it’s any peace of mind here’s a list of socials media sites that are either dead or obsolete:

(Pro Tip: Don’t reference these in front if your kids when having a chat with them…you’ll be laughed out of the house)

  • MSN Messenger
  • Chat Roulette
