The Pies had managed to get out to a 14 point lead late in the fourth quarter, before the Dons started dragging them back as the rain tumbled.

Leroy Jetta kick started the late surge, with Ricky Dyson the dobbing a set shot from the boundary.

Lifelong Essendon fan David Zaharakis then made himself an instant Bombers legend, sinking the winning goal with his first career snag in just his fourth game.
