Day one of pre-season officially starts for the Brisbane Broncos today with all players, other than those injured or in Origin quarantine, returning to Red Hill this morning to wipe the 2020 slate clean.

It’s also day one for new coach Kevin Walters who for the first time will push his new team around the park, however there are rumblings that new regime may see the end of a few fan favourites.

Speaking on The Big Breakfast this morning NRL insider Ben Dobbin told listeners that Matt Lodge, who was once touted as potential captain of the club may be on the way out under the new regime.

Lodge, whose 2020 season was cruelled by an aggravation to an existing knee injuring, arrived at the Broncos in 2018  and has proven himself as a leader amongst his teammates however his time in Broncos colours may limited.

“I’m hearing a long the grapevine that Matt Lodge won’t be a Brisbane next year”

“My understanding is it runs deeper, they’re trying to move him, it’s a mutual decision, potentially Matt Lodge won’t be there next year”

In regards to the captaincy it is rumoured that Kiwi international Alex Glenn won’t hold onto the position with Dobbo telling The Big Breakfast that after speaking to coach Kevin Walters the role will go to ‘whoever trains the hardest in pre-season’'

“I have a really strong sense that if Anthony Milford steps up he’ll be the captain”
