David Beckham's the latest public figure to cop the dodgy statue treatment, but this time it was all in the name of a classic stitch-up.

The ex-LA Galaxy player was to be honoured by his former club with a statue, which would be permanently installed outside the Los Angeles stadium.

Except fellow Brit and late night talk show host James Corden caught wind of the plans a little while ago - and decided to get involved.

Corden commissioned a Cristiano Ronaldo-esque statue, hired a whole bunch of actors - who repeatedly referred to him as "Dave" and praised his time at Man City - and set-up cameras at the informal "reveal".

While the full prank is still geo-blocked for Australia (rude, we know), LA Galaxy have posted a couple of snippets, which you can check out below.

There's also a clip of Becks interacting with the "sculptor", who flat-out asks him what he doesn't like about his work

"How can you change it in this short amount of time?!" Beckham asks. "There's no way that can go out the front of the stadium."

Hopefully it's not too much longer until the video is available for us to watch and re-watch but, in the meantime, please take a closer look at what Beckham would look like if the Chesty Bonds Guy had fallen on hard times.
