A North Hobart Family have been lucky to escape a blaze at their unit today.

At around 10 am this morning firefighters from the Tasmania Fire Service (TFS) responded to reports of a house fire in Condell place North Hobart and on arrival found smoke coming from the second floor of the unit.

TFS report on arrival the family had all safely evacuated and firefighters immediately checked that all the residents were accounted for.

Fire fighters wearing breathing apparatus then quickly located and extinguished the fire which had started in an upstairs bedroom.

TFS Station Officer Val Ansett said 'Despite the close call this family has had it was pleasing to see that this home had an installed and working smoke alarm'

The results of the fire investigation have determined that it was an accidental fire and the damage to the unit is approximately $50,000
