Malcolm Turnbull Survives Dramatic Leadership Spill
PM Defeats Peter Dutton 48-35
Malcolm Turnbull has retained the leadership of the Liberal Party and the Prime Ministership after a spill at this morning's party room meeting.
The Prime Minister moved to declare the leadership vacant as soon as the meeting kicked off on Tuesday, with Home Affairs minister Peter Dutton challenging as expected.
However he was defeated 48 votes to 35, and has now subsequently resigned from the frontbench.
The Deputy Leadership was uncontested with Julie Bishop maintaining the role.
