A 25 Year Old Bridgewater man is in custody and has been charged following a manhunt in connection with the knifepoint robbery in Claremont last night.

Tasmania Police charged the man with armed robbery after an incident at the Big Bargain Bottle Shop on Main Road at Claremont.

It will be alleged that at 7:45pm on Monday evening, a man wearing a balaclava and a hooded jumper entered the bottle shop armed with a knife and demanded that staff hand over the contents of the till. A staff member handed over a sum of cash and the offender then fled the scene.

Following a manhunt the alleged offender was located at a Hotel in the Bridgewater area where he was arrested and transported to the Hobart Police Station. The man was questioned and later charged with armed robbery and driving offences being set to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court today.

Police said they thanked members of the public who assisted with their inquiries. They still want to speak with anyone who may have seen an older model gold coloured Mitsubishi Magna in the Claremont area at around 7:45 pm last night.
