A man has been charged with making an alleged bomb threat at Sydney Airport.

Staff at regional airline Rex reportedly received the threatening phone call around 5pm on Tuesday night, prompting NSW police officers and the Riot Squad to search the building, however nothing suspicious was located.

Following inquiries, a 36-year-old man was arrested at Darling Point last night, where he was taken to Mascot Police station for questioning and later charged with using a carriage service to make a hoax threat.

He's now behind bars after being refused bail, and will appear at Central Local Court later today.
