A 48 year old Sawtell man will face Coffs Harbour Local Court on 8 April 2019 after being charged over alleged targeting aircraft with a laser light.

Police will allege that between March 4 and 15, the man used a hand held laser light to target aircraft operating around Coffs Harbour Regional Airport.

On the 15 March 2019, a joint operation between Coffs Clarence Police District and the Police Aviation Support Branch (POLAIR) was conducted, and the man was arrested at 9:28pm near 22nd Avenue at Sawtell. Police recovered the laser light nearby. The man was taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station.

The man was been charged with three counts of threaten safety of aircraft, and one count of possession of a prohibited weapon, and given conditional bail to appear in court.

Investigations are ongoing.
