A man will re-appear at court today charged over the alleged aggravated indecent assault of a young girl at a Riverina child care centre a decade ago.

Detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad commenced an investigation in March 2018 following reports of the assault at a child care centre at Ariah Park between 2008 and 2009.

As a result of inquiries, detectives travelled to Victoria to speak with a 31-year-old man in September 2018.

The 31-year-old man was arrested at a home at Ariah Park about 3.30pm on January 25, 2019.

He was charged with aggravated indecent assault-victim under the age of 16 years.

Police will allege in court that the man indecently assaulted the then two-year-old girl while she was attending day care at the home of his relative.

The man was refused bail and appeared at Wagga Wagga Local Court, where he was granted strict conditional bail to re-appear at the Temora Local Court today.

Police have notified the Early Childhood Education and Care Directorate, NSW Department of Education and Communities, who have served a prohibition notice on the director of the child care centre.

Inquiries are continuing.
