Marcus Stoinis and Daniel Ricciardo are great mates, but a friendly backyard cricket game nearly ended in tears for the F1 racer recently.

Stoinis joined the Hot Breakfast team this morning and detailed how Ricciardo nearly broke his own ankle playing a shot that he insisted be filmed.

“We were at my place and he found a bat lying around and he wanted to play a few shots,” Stoinis said.

“He’s dancing around, playing a few drives and goes ‘Oh Stoiny, get the camera out, film one and we’ll see what happens!”

The boys were lucky that the following injury wasn’t too severe, as Ricciardo starts his career as a Renault driver next month at the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Melbourne.

Stoinis also discussed his get up at the Australian Cricket Awards, his newfound status as the ODI player of the year, his Test ambitions and more.
