Mark Ricciuto explained what happened with the Tom Lynch medical sub late in Adelaide’s loss to Hawthorn in Launceston.

LISTEN HERE:

"The plan was to not play Tom Lynch," Roo said.

"He was omitted, but he was gonna be the medical sub.

"So he’s fit to play, but only would play if needed be, which for the last few weeks, as the medical sub at the Crows, they haven’t needed to play that person, but he was down there, he was ready to play, and willing to play.

"But the problem with Tom on the weekend, is he needed an injection in his injured site to play, which is quite common for a footballer, he’s had an injection for the last few weeks, probably other players in the side had injections to play on the weekend… that is unfortunately a reasonably commonplace thing in football.

"So the injection that Tom had to have is not unusual, but what was unusual about it is that he couldn’t get strapped where he needed to have his injection.

"So he couldn’t get strapped and have his boots on ready to play, because if you have your injection before the game and you’re only needed in the last quarter, your injection’s worn off… so they had to wait until he knew he was needed to play before he had the injection, which is what they did, then he got strapped, then put the boots on, then to play."

Roo wasn’t sure of one thing though: why Lynch didn’t have his guernsey on.

"You could argue why didn’t he have his jumper on," he said.

"And you know what? I haven’t got an answer for that, I don’t know why.

"But it does only take a few seconds to put your jumper on."
