Marnus Labuschagne has been added to the Test squad ahead of the fourth and final Test against India in Sydney.

Skipper Tim Paine confirmed the batsman would be added to the squad in his post-match press conference at the MCG on Sunday.

Labuschagne will meet up with the rest of the squad as Australia looks to level the series against Sydney, following their 137-run loss at the MCG.

It could mark Labuschagne's first Test on Australian soil after making his Test debut in the United Arab Emirates against Pakistan.

The 24-year-old averaged 20.25 with the bat across the two Tests but also impressed with the ball, with his leg spin taking seven wickets at 22.42.

It could spell an exit for Mitch Marsh, who made just nine and 10 with the bat in his first home Test of the summer, while Aaron Finch is also under pressure to retain his spot.

Australia squad: Tim Paine (c, wk), Josh Hazlewood (vc), Mitch Marsh (vc), Pat Cummins, Aaron Finch, Peter Handscomb, Marcus Harris, Travis Head, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Shaun Marsh, Peter Siddle, Mitchell Starc, Chris Tremain
