As speculation swirls around Paul Green’s tenure as Maroons coach, potential replacements are already being proposed and one former Origin great has supported a radical solution that would make Queensland fans spirits soar.

Green, who took the role following Wayne Bennett’s departure, still has another year on his contract with the QRL. However, he may walk away at the end of this series, especially if NSW complete their first sweep since the year 2000 tonight.

Speaking on The Rush Hour Queenslander with Dobbo Maroons great Michael Morgan floated the idea of a coaching consortium taking the reigns should Green depart his post. The group would feature three members of Queensland’s ‘eight-straight’ era of dominance: Cameron Smith, Billy Slater & Johnathan Thurston. Morgan, a veteran of twelve origins, explained to listeners how the restructure would work.

“I’d love to see Cameron Smith, JT and Billy takeover”

“Maybe have Smithy named as the head coach but let them run it”
