The State government are set to provide a major funding boost for Guide Dogs WA, injecting $5million into the not-for-profit organisation.

Guide Dogs CEO Anna Presser says there will also help to improve cadet training and welcoming in new pups.

Premier Mark McGowan shared the commitment on his social media page.

"This initiative will help Guide Dogs WA meet the growing demand for assistance dogs in Western Australia and includes specialised autism assistance dogs and therapy dogs, dementia dogs and PTSD dogs." the Facebook post read.

"Guide Dogs WA has also cited a lack of specialised programs to equip the next generation of guide dog trainers, so establishing a cadet training program here in WA will help address that, while creating local jobs." a statement attributed to Premier McGowan.

The aim is to establish a world-class guide and assistance dog breeding program in Western Australia, with funding going towards increasing the amount of qualified dog trainers in the state through the cadet program.
