The Cowboys recent on-field woes are showing no signs of turning around and now veteran Maroon Josh McGuire has called out his teammates and himself as the reason behind his side’s poor start to the season.

Coach Paul Green is under fire for North Queensland’s miserable opening to their 2020 account with added pressure off the back of weekend’s 36-20 loss to Wests Tigers.

Speaking on The Rush Hour with Dobbo this evening an evidently frustrated McGuire pointed the finger squarely at himself and playing group, deflecting all criticism away from his embattled coach.

“We’ve got all these facilities up here…we’ve got some of the best players in the world…for whatever reason people just don’t want to do their job, mate, and we’ve gotta be better and that goes for me too.”

The Cowboys are currently 2-4, on parity with their Queensland counterparts the Broncos, however McGuire admits his heart goes out to his former side who currently sit 14th on the NRL ladder with the second worst points differential in the competition and in desperate need of the experience that a McGuire-type figure would provide.
