Can it stop the spread?

An entire apartment complex in Melbourne has gone into a 14-day lockdown with hundreds isolating after two Covid cases were discovered.

The two new cases were two adults living in separate apartments, but the concern is communal living areas and potential community transmission.

It comes as Victoria is reportedly set to announce an easing of restrictions for the city as early as Friday including lifting a 25km travel ban.

Epidemiologist Professor Catherine Bennett says it shouldn't stop restrictions easing further but masks outdoors will likely stick around.

"We have seen some local transmission and that then takes that risk out to local shopping areas, so it is important that people test, but we shouldn’t worry too much about it being a wider incident because they are onto it very early."

While in New South Wales authorities are investigating potential spread inside a Sydney quarantine hotel after guests contracted the same viral sequence on the fourth floor. The source and transmission of the Covid strain is unclear.

We are reminded to get tested if we experience any symptoms of the virus. A full list of symptoms and advice can be found at health.gov.au.
