A Gold Coast family is searching for answers, after a memorial stool was stolen from the grave site of their son.

The three legged stool has been in place at Robert Botwright's Pimpama grave site for more than 2 years, and had recently been sanded and re-stained.

Robert's father John has taken to Facebook to find the stool which has recently vanished.

"It also has a wooden bottle shape on one edge with the name "BOTTLES" carved in it. This was son Robert Botwright's nickname as also shown on the grave stone."

A spokesperson for Gold Coast City Council has confirmed Council workers haven't removed the seat.

"I’ve spoken with our Community Venues team and they’ve confirmed with me that it definitely wasn’t a council representative who removed the stool."
