The man behind the famous boxing phrase "Let's get ready to RUMBLE!!" spoke with Marto, Ed and Robin.. revealing exactly where it all began.

"What I wanted to do was bring back the atmosphere that we had when the fighters made their entrances. Ring announcers had been doing this thing where they introduced all the buddies and I had to do the same thing.. the Chairman, the President, the Commissioners, the Board Members, 3 Judges, 4 Doctors.... and it just sucked the air out of the room"

"I wanted people to be prepared to meet the stars of the show"

Buffer told Marto, Ed and Robin that he had tried some other phrases first.

"I tried 'man your battle stations', 'fasten your seatbelts'.."

"And the great Muhummad Ali used to have this thing, he would say 'I'm so pretty, rumble young man, rumble.. float like a butterfly, sting like a bee', right? I fine tuned it to 'let's get ready to rumble' and just stayed with it.

Buffer first used the now-popular phrase around 1983.

"It was a gradual process and it just started to take off. I would see it in a headline before a big fight, or hear it on a used car commercial, and that's when I realised 'this belongs to me' and I trademarked it."

Buffer now 'owns' the saying. Marto wanted to know how it works.

"It works like.. don't say it"

"I had to put together a package for the US trademark office of videos and magazine articles, showing it belongs to me and we got it done. And then after that, you do it in other countries"
