Queensland’s Minister for Industrial Relations Grace Grace is to speak at a national meeting for workplace health and safety for the banning of imported engineered stone.

Grace
originally called for a national response to the crisis in September 2018 and is eagerly awaiting to see how the government will finally respond to Silicosis health concerns caused by engineered stone in the workplace.

Grace spoke with the Triple M Breakfast with Marto, Margaux & Dan to discuss the upcoming meeting and what it means for our tradies?

The potential ban of engineered stone is to help put a stop to the increase of cases in Silicosis, a lung disease that’s caused by inhaling tiny bits of silica dust, which is happening nationally across workplaces when stonemasons are cutting, grinding and drilling engineered stone.

Despite protocols already being in place such as tradesmen wearing masks while working and no longer dry cutting stone, Grace is calling to ban the importation and implementation of engineered stone to "… eliminate the hazard in the first place, and that’s what we did in asbestos".
