Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh will not play in the first ODI against India after being hospitalised.

Marsh has gastritis and has spent the past two days in hospital, according to Cricket Australia.

Coach Justin Langer confirmed Marsh would not play in the first ODI.

Ashton Turner, who has starred for the Scorchers in the Big Bash League so far this season, has been called up as batting cover.

The 25-year-old has made 240 runs at 48.00 this season, including three successive scores above 40, and made 193 runs at 38.60 in the most recent JLT Cup.

Marsh was yesterday axed from Australia's Test squad to take on Sri Lanka after struggling in the third Test, making scores of nine and 10 and taking 0/51 with the ball.

He has, however, impressed in the 50-over format, averaging 35.70 with the bat and taking 44 wickets at 35.54 with the ball for Australia.
