More than three thousand Victorians who had been booked in for their first AstraZeneca dose will now get the Pfizer vaccine.

The latest advice is that Pfizer is the recommended jab for those aged 59 and under.

Victoria's COVID Response Commander Jeroen Weimar admits the new recommendations will impact the state's vaccine rollout.

"With more people now being guided towards Pfizer in the 50-59 age group, that means there's more contention for a limited supply of Pfizer. That does provide problems, particularly for us in Victoria," he said.

Mr Weimar says if you're affected they'll let you know, but it does create a fresh issue when it comes to supply and demand.
