The Toowoomba Hospital Foundation is calling on the community of Toowoomba to treat someone special this upcoming Mother’s Day weekend and support local BreastScreen services.

The annual Mother’s Day High Tea and Fashion Parade will be held on Saturday, 13 May with all funds raised going towards BreastScreen Queensland’s Toowoomba service and raising awareness of breast cancer.

Along with enjoying a high tea and fashion parade, guests will hear from local breast cancer survivor, Janice Wheeler, who will share her story.

Janice was diagnosed with breast cancer eight years ago at the age of 47 following a routine mammogram at the Toowoomba Hospital.

Toowoomba Hospital Foundation chief executive officer Alison Kennedy said Mother’s Day presented the perfect opportunity to treat a loved one and promote the importance of being breast aware for women.

“We all have special women who play important roles in our lives, whether it be a friend, colleague, mother, sister, aunt, or grandmother,” Mrs Kennedy said.

“This Mother’s Day, we are encouraging everyone to gather their special women, and get together at the High Tea to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer.

“There will be a lot on offer during the day including a high tea with a glass of champagne, the fashion parade plus plenty of raffles and prizes

“We are also very lucky to have Janice attending the event who will give guests an insight into her journey with breast cancer and will share the importance of being breast aware, and the joy that can be found after diagnosis.”
