The Murray River Group of Councils (MRGC) has sent a message on behalf of Northern Victorian irrigators, to those charged with implementing the Basin Plan.

The group says it's not possible to take more productive water out of our districts without long term negative impacts.

The Murray River Group of Councils comprises of six councils in Northern Victoria, including Mildura and Swan Hill Rural City Councils and Loddon, Gannawarra, Campaspe and Moira Shires.

The MRGC has told the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources of the serious risks faced by Northern Victorian Irrigation communities if they go forward with the recovery of the proposed 450 gigalitres of water from the consumption pool.

The group of councils say further water recovery pushes irrigation districts past the tipping point where entire industries collapse - risking the region's ability to produce the food staples relied upon across the country.
