219 players have nominated for the mid-season rookie draft so far, with about 15 players set to join AFL clubs on May 27.

Amongst those who have nominated are Alex Johnson (Sydney), who is recovering from a sixth knee record, former North and Geelong player Aaron Black, Mitch Hibberd (Roos) and Ben Kennedy (Pies and Demons).

Former Collingwood and St Kilda player Nathan Freeman has also nominated for the draft, after being delisted at the end of last season.

The mid-season draft is the first of its kind for almost 25 years, and is designed to provide instant relief for teams with particular needs.

To take part, clubs must have a list spot free - which may be open from the rookie draft, or created by a retirement or player being placed on the long-term injury list.
