Some parts of Geelong are estimated to be without power until 2am, according to the Herald Sun.

“The largest fault is along the Bellarine Peninsula, with about 15,700 customers impacted. Crews are currently investigating the cause,” a Citipower spokeswoman told the Herald Sun.

“There have also been multiple fuse faults that have affected power. The extreme heat has significantly increased electricity use and this has resulted in localised power outages.

“Crews are working to restore power to customers as quickly and safety as possible.”

Temperatures reached 37 in Melbourne, with some parts of the state getting above 40 degrees.

There will be no respite tomorrow, with temperatures teaching 35 after an overnight low of 28.
