New 40km/hr Rule Protecting Emergency Respondents

The safety of our emergency workers will come to the forefront following an announcement, that the State Government will introduce a new rule requiring all motorists slow to 40km/hr when passing them on the roadside.
It'll begin as a 12 month trial from September 1st this year, after a comprehensive public education campaign.
Minister for Roads, Maritime and Freight Melinda Pavey said, "the new rule will strengthen current laws and require motorists to slow down to 40km/hr when an emergency vehicle is stopped and has its red or blue lights flashing on all roads."
Mrs Pavey said it will give all emergency workers extra protection, and the confidence that they can go to work and at the end of their shift, get home safely to their families.
