Mount Gambier will see an all-weather race track under the Coalition's Building Better Regions Fund Infrastructure Projects Stream.

The redevelopment of the Mount Gambier race track is set to provide a new racing surface with improved drainage and irrigation, helping the club to race for a larger part of the year.

The project is being jointly funded with the Australian Government contributing 1.5 million dollars under the BBRF, and Thoroughbred Racing SA Limited providing a further $1.7 million.

Member for Barker Tony Pasin says the successful application will mean thoroughbred racing will continue in wet weather, “Together with Thoroughbred Racing SA, the Australian Government will be spending $3.2 million repairing, the track and making it so that we can race in all weather.

“We have on occasion had significant race meetings including the Mount Gambier Gold Cup abandoned on account of rain and we want to make sure that doesn’t happen again.”
