Melbourne police have deployed thousands of officers across the region in preparation for planned anti-lockdown protests across the city.

In substantial efforts to disrupt the planned anti-lockdown protests, authorities have paused all public transport into the CBD for six hours.

Public transport will be halted from 8AM until 2PM.

There will be exceptions granted to essentials workers and anyone attending a vaccination appointment while anyone who does not have an exemption will be fined.

The call was made by Victoria’s Police Commissioner and supported by the Lord Mayor following unprecedented violence between protesters and police during the last protests only a month ago.

The halt on public transport is only part of the police effort to prevent any protests from occurring, with two thousand police officers enforcing a ring of steel around the city.

The massive police presence comes as the state records 535 new locally acquired Covid-19 cases this morning and one death.

So far, 62 of the new locally acquired cases have been linked back to known outbreaks.

The 535 new cases come from 61,000 test results returned yesterday.

Despite the new Covid-19 numbers, Melburnians have been granted an ease on restrictions with five full-vaccinated people from two household permitted to meet for picnics 10km from their homes for up to four hours.
