New State-of-the-Art Cancer Centre Proposed For St Kilda Rd

A new world class cancer centre planned for Melbourne is before city council in a $93.8 million bid.

The state-of-the-art Victorian Melanoma and Clinical Trials Centre will be built on St Kilda Rd, delivering 'high-end' research and treatment.

The facility will focus on the early detection and prevention of skin cancers including melanoma as well as advance clinical research a ‘Trial Hub’.

Boasting a futuristic design with a helipad, gardens, and communal spaces, the six storey architecturally striking building, will be linked to the existing Alfred precinct, opposite Fawkner Park.

Patients will benefit from clinical trials and specialist treatments, along with same-day and outpatient care, education spaces, medical offices, laboratories, therapy rooms.

Deputy Mayor Nicholas Reece said the development would further entrench Melbourne as “Australia’s medical research capital’’ with a focus on melanoma and other cancers.

Once approved, construction is expected to start in 2022 and operational by early 2024.
