If you've been to the northern suburbs of Perth lately, you might have noticed some major roadworks taking place on Tonkin Highway and Reid Highway and up to Muchea.

Northlink WA is Western Australia's largest road project to date worth over $1 billion and is set to be opened later this year.

The new road, which is an extension of Tonkin Highway from Morley to Muchea is 42 kilometres long and will significantly cut journey times, making it easier for travel from areas such as Bindoon and Chittering. It will also take heavy traffic away from Great Northern Highway through the Swan Valley in a boost to local tourism.

Federal member for Pearce Christian Porter says Northlink is not the only major project set to be delivered in the electorate with plans for a new heavy truck route between Midland and Northam. Have a listen to the details here.
