New Varsity Lakes hospital takes on surgery patients

A new public day hospital is set to open on the Gold Coast in a bid to reduce wait times for elective surgery.

Gold Coast health announced it will lease the former Gold Coast Surgical Hospital from Healthe Care Australia on Monday.

It has been renamed to Varsity Lakes Day Hospital, and will welcome its first surgical patients on November 1.

There are hopes it will help ease the burden on the in-demand Gold Coast University Hospital.
