Newcastle’s running community has exploded since the first Hill2Harbour event in back in 2007. There are record entries expected for our 12th anniversary as the whole festival continues to grow in popularity.
With the added benefit of being beside Queens Wharf and Hunter St Mall, the event is expected to attract more than 2000 participants and 3,000 spectators. This will be a welcome bonus to the area on a Sunday morning for local businesses.
‘As local organisers it is important that events like this can help local community groups fundraise and get their stakeholders active. We are also working with 3 local running groups and 2 local surf clubs to stage the event. Everyone is a winner with funds raised and people getting active”, says organiser Humphreys.
Among those lining up next weekend in the 10km event will be runners from Canteen, who are running to raise funds for the official charity of the event. Those running NewRun this year, can consider joining TEAM CANTEEN! Select the team upon registration, set up your fundraising page and spread the word! All fundraisers will receive regular fundraising tips from CanTeen.
Online entries for the event will close on midnight on Wednesday 11 April, but runners who can’t commit but are still keen to run can enter after this time at the Event compound at Queens Wharf Hotel off Wharf Rd Newcastle on Saturday from 10am – 4pm or Sunday up to 1 hour before race start. Note the 10km starts at Bar Beach, but the ½ marathon, 5km and 2km starts at Queens Wharf.
