Nick Riewoldt's Full Story On How Eddie McGuire Tried To Bring Him To Collingwood
"I could have been."
Triple M's Nick Riewoldt has opened up on how close he came to joining Collingwood after a meeting with Eddie McGuire at the end of 2013.
RIEWOLDT TELLS THE STORY:
Riewoldt told Triple M's Saturday Rub before the 2018 grand final and told the guys that he met with Collingwood's president before the Hawthorn/Fremantle decider five years ago.
"I could have been (playing for them)," he said.
"I got a call from Eddie, and he said 'mate, I'd love you to come over and let's discuss your future and particularly your media future'.
"I went over on the Friday, the day before the grand final. He got me in the door and within 30 seconds, he said 'look mate, I lied. I got you here because I wanted to talk about playing for Collingwood.'"
Riewoldt left the meeting and flew to Texas on Sunday...but not before receiving another suggestive message from Eddie.
"It was a really smart play from Eddie, because he knew I was about to have to turn my phone off," he said.
"For 14 hours...that's all I could think about!"
