New South Wales recorded 1284 local Covid-19 cases and 12 deaths on Friday with on track just passing the 50 per cent double vaccination target.

Sadly, however of the 12 COVID-related deaths two were people in their 20's.

One woman who died at Nepean hospital with underlying health conditions had received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while a second woman who was not vaccinated passed away at Gosford hospital.

The death toll from the Delta outbreak is now at 222.

Meanwhile, Premier Gladys Berejiklian said while the state reaching the 50 per cent milestone is exciting, she is looking even further ahead.

"It gives us heart that is some weeks, we’ll reach 70 per cent double dose [for people aged 16 and over] and enjoy many more things than we can today and start to feel more normal about life at that stage"

"I can confirm the NSW government has already started planning on our 80 per cent plan and what happens at 80 per cent double dose," the Premier said

“One of the things that we expect to occur at 80 per cent ... is to consider our international borders.”

Furthermore, the Premier declared hotel quarantine to soon be a thing of the past.

Ms Berejiklian said that once the state reaches the 80% vaccination rates it will begin a home quarantine trial.

"It's really opening the doors what home quarantine will look like for us moving forward," Ms Berejiklian said.

It’s anticipated that the trial will enable about 125 fully vaccinated people, including Qantas employees, to quarantine from home for seven days.

The home quarantine trial for returning travellers from overseas is expected to commence by the end of this month.
