Cowboys’ supporters were left scratching their heads yesterday afternoon during their disappointing round one loss to the bulldogs.

Not only did the low-scoring affair give little hope for the year ahead but use of captain Jason Taumalolo’s time in the middle gave them impression that something more may be going on behind the scenes in Townsville. A sentiment echoed by Triple M’s Ben Te’o

Speaking on The Rush Hour with Leisel, Liam and Dobbo, Te’o told listeners that the reported conflict between the captain and coach Todd Payten that first reared its head last year appears to remain unsettled. A conflict that in Teo’s opinion could see the Tongan international depart the club.

“That sort of rumour has never gone away”

“Todd’s not playing him in the minutes (he deserves) …maybe he doesn’t trust Jason on the field for that long? Something needs to happen; one needs to go maybe?”

Taumalolo, 28, signed a ten-year $10 million contract in 2017 but with the Dolphins in the hunt for players an offer to take him off the Cowboys hands may be too good to refuse.
