NSW Police have launched Operation Safe Arrival, a campaign for road safety across the Christmas/New Year period.

The operation follows an alarming increase in road deaths in NSW this year.

As of Wednesday, 367 people have lost their lives on NSW roads in 2017, passing the tally this time last year.

Operation Safe Arrival begins at 12:01am on Friday 15 December 2017, running until 11:59pm on Monday 1 January 2018.

NSW Minister for Roads, Melinda Pavey joined NSW Police speaking about the operation, with the theme of ‘Don’t Let Safety Take a Backseat’.

Starting this week, there will be more police on NSW roads targeting drivers for dangerous behaviours, including speeding, drink and drug-driving, mobile phone use, and not wearing seatbelts.
