There were emotional scenes at the MCG in the second quarter of Carlton’s drought-breaking win over Richmond last night when spiritual leader Sam Docherty kicked his first goal for the club in over four years.

Docherty has battled two separate bouts of cancer as well as suffered two ACL ruptures since his last goal, and the reaction was one of pure emotion.

Triple M Footy’s call team of Brian Taylor, Barry Denner, Kate McCarthy, Dale Thomas, Ethan Meldrum and Michael Roberts called the rousing moment last night.

"I've got absolute goosebumps," Kate said.

"This is a wonderful game, but some things are just way bigger than footy.

"That goal there from Sam Docherty is just incredible, the resilience and resolve that he’s shown to get back out on the park."

Stats man Ethan Meldrum put the goal in context: "[It’s] Sam Docherty’s first goal in 1,754 days, round 10, 2017."
