UPDATE:

All lanes are clear following a crash earlier this morning.

According to one Triple M listener at the scene, a truck carrying cattle and sheep heading north rolled into the median strip, before some livestock were struck by a tanker truck heading south on the highway near the Crescent Head overpass. 

UPDATE:

One lane is now opened in both directions on the Pacific Highway following the earlier truck crash near Kempsey.

Motorists are advised to take care and slow down in the area as there are also cattle and sheep on the road in the area.

EARLIER:

The Pacific Highway has been closed southbound at Kempsey following a two truck crash.

According to the Traffic Management Centre, both southbound lanes were closed just after midnight near Crescent Head Road.

All southbound traffic is being diverted at Frederickton onto Macleay Street and Macleay Valley Way, rejoining the Pacific Highway at South Kempsey.

This route is suitable for all vehicles.

It is unknown the extent of the crash, or injuries.
